Mathur Panchayat, which falls in the Edanad region, is mostly agricultural land and homesteads. Cultivable loamy and clay soil prevails throughout the panchayat. Although the main crop is paddy, coconut, banana, kavung, plantain, cassava, sweet potato, turmeric, vegetables, ginger, rubber, and pineapple are also cultivated here in abundance. The main water sources used for agriculture in this panchayat, which has only 3 usable ponds, are the Malampuzha Canal and the Bharathapuzha River. Mathur Grama Panchayat came into existence on December 16, 1963. The boundaries of this panchayat, which has an area of 24.54 sq. km., are as follows: North-Parali and Pirayiri Grama Panchayats, East-Kannadi and Pirayiri Grama Panchayats, South-Kuzhalmandam and Koothanur Grama Panchayats, and West-Kottayi Grama Panchayat. The total population of this panchayat with 16 wards is 23679. Out of which 12161 are women and 11518 are men. The literacy rate of the total population is 94.5%. There are 22 public wells and 870 public taps in this panchayat. There are 15 ration shops, one Maveli store and one Neethi store operating in the public distribution area of the panchayat. 704 street lights installed here and there in the panchayat make the panchayat streets passable at night. The modern education system came to Mathur panchayat in the 1920s. Before that, there were village churches. During 1914-15, Eeshwara Iyer established an LP school on the western floor of Mathur. As of 2010, there were 4 LP schools in the government sector. Schools, and 5 schools in the private sector under LP and UP high school categories. In addition, one college and two technical educational institutions are functioning in the panchayat. The Krishi Bhavan of the panchayat is located in Thanneerakad, and two village offices are located in Chungamandam and Pallanchathanur. There are five sub-post offices in Chungamandat, namely, BSNL office, Mathur, Mathur Agraharam, Pallanjanthanur, Kariankot and Thachankat. Mathur is a panchayat that is very prominent in terms of road transport. 92 small and big roads pass through the panchayat. Palakkad bus stand and Alathur bus stand are the two main places where road transport in the panchayat is concentrated. The residents of the panchayat rely on the nearest airport, Coimbatore Airport, for foreign travel. Palakkad railway station is the nearest railway station to the panchayat. The port of Kochi is the port closest to the panchayat. The main bridge in the panchayat is the Vettikkad bridge in Chungamandat. The important commercial center of the panchayat is Chungamandat Junction. There are two panchayat shopping complexes in Chungamandat. Mathur Panchayat is predominantly Hindu, with a small percentage of Muslims and a very small number of Christians. There are many places of worship in this panchayat belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities. There are 12 temples and 3 Muslim mosques scattered throughout the panchayat. The Theruvath Palli, a Muslim place of worship built with the cooperation of the Hindu community, and the Palli Nercha are symbols of religious harmony in this panchayat. The Anikode Kathir festival is also a celebration that celebrates the cultural identity of the panchayat. Kerala State Chief Information Officer Palat Mohandas, Head of Sree Chitra Cancer Center Dr. Radhakrishnan, anthropologist Dr. P.R.G. Mathur, former MLA T.K. Arumughan, and novelist Dr. Ganesh were born in this panchayat. Mathur Grama Panchayat Library and Youth Library are institutions that promote the cultural sector of the panchayat. There are various health centers in the panchayat that are actively working in the field of health care. There is a homeopathic dispensary, Mathur Primary Health Center, and one primary health sub-center each at Anikodu, Pallanjanthanur, Thanneerangad, and Mandampully.
